HOW TO OPEN DOORS, TRUNKS AND HOODS ON A PLASTIC MODEL CAR

Well this applies to any type of model that you want to create an opening with. It's not that complicated. Take an old X-acto blade with a broken tip. Now with the back of the blade, that means the cutting edge pointing up, scrape inside the panel line that you want to open. Take your time, it's a bit long to start off, but soon enough that blade will dig in the plastic and you will see progress. Go slow and the result will be better, no need to rush things. Once the piece is removed, just finish off with a file or sandpaper to clean up the edges and you're done.

Remember, it's about having fun.

Cool, I've been looking for ideas on making a model kits doors open and close. As you said to use a knife to cut out the door, but do you have any ideas on how to hinge the door back onto the kit?

Sorry havoc, I'm not there yet. I'm sure you can find the info if you look hard enough, it's out there.

Here's a much much better way... Heat up an exacto knife with a propane torch. If you have a little cut, just use the tip. If you have a whole door, heat up the whole blade. It's super fast, but it can be super destructive. If you make a mistake, you can use the knife to weld in a small piece. But, you can save a lot of problems by planning. Fit the pieces together as if you were going to glue them all up. Then you will see how many pices have to be cut and lined up.
